Party Poker – regarded by many as the first big online poker room! Without Party, it’s unlikely that online poker would have the huge prescence it does today.
Going back 5 years, Party Poker had such a stranglehold on the market, it was impossible to see anyone ever dislodging them. it was a great place to play with plenty of fish, VERY busy cash and s’n'g games, and great customer support.
Upto 72,000 players could be found online during peak times – the site was really THE place to play.
And then things changed…
The United States introduced a law which made online poker prohibited in the US – because PartyPoker is a publicly listed company, they had little choice but to withdraw from the US and lose approx 70% of its players overnight. In some quarters, there were even rumours that it may close down altogether.
However, Party rallied strongly and invested heavily in the European and Pan Asian markets, and came back with a vengeance.
Still a poker player favourite, Party Poker is still regarded as the forerunner in online poker. Nice software, still very decent player and traffic numbers, and an ambitious and rewarding tournament program means that it is still one of the premier destinations for players even today.
They have a good celebrity following, including the well known trash talking Tony G, and they sponsor a lot of live events and TV events meaning they are continually linked to the poker World.
The site is perhaps THE fishiest out there, as a lot of newby players tend to gravitate towards the site through their Party Poker offline marketing.
They have a decent sit’n'go structure, and a good player reward scheme.
